Democratic Candidate, Virginia 10th Congressional District
Dan Helmer is a U.S. Army veteran, business strategist, husband, and father running for Congress in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.
Dan is the son and grandson of immigrants and refugees, and he has always felt a deep commitment to serving and protecting the country that welcomed his family. After high school, Dan enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and, over the course of 11 years in the military, served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and South Korea. He remains an Army Reservist.
A Rhodes Scholar and the recipient of the Bronze Star, Dan has traveled with his family throughout the country and the world on behalf of the United States. After his time with the Army, Dan began serving as a strategic adviser at a major international strategy firm, where he has helped public and private sector institutions innovate, solve complex problems, and more effectively serve Americans.
Dan and his family are alarmed by the mistrust that has developed between the government and the American people. They understand that to restore that trust, we need proven, tested leaders in Congress with broad experience – non-career politicians who will bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to reset our politics and restore faith in our government.
As a member of Congress, Dan will ensure that all Americans can share in our prosperity. An expert at building coalitions and solving complex problems, Dan will fight tirelessly for our security at home and abroad, creating new jobs and new opportunities for all Americans and standing up for the values our country was built on.
Dan’s wife, Karen, is a public school teacher, and their two young sons, Harris and Aaron, attend class just down the hall from their mom.
